Biography

Finnish long-distance runner Gabriel Ruotsalainen represented HKV in Finland and won bronze in the 25,000 metres at the national championships in 1917. Ruotsalainen moved up to longer distances, winning the Helsinki marathon in 1922 in 2:46:26, the fastest marathon time in the world that year. Two years later he ran in the marathon at the 1924 Paris Olympics but did not finish the course. Ruotsalainen later moved to Canada where he died in Lasalle, Québec in June 1966.
