Track athlete Jean-Pierre Goudeau won his first French national title in the 200 metres in 1951. The following year he was selected to represent his country at the 1952 Helsinki Olympics, where he was eliminated in round one of the 400 metres and placed sixth in the 4x400 metres relay with Robert Bart, Jacques Degats, and Jean-Paul Martin du Gard. He was also an alternate with the 4x100 metres relay, but did not take part. At the 1954 European Championships, the 4x400 metres relay team won the gold medal, with Pierre Haarhoff taking the place of Bart. This same quartet took part in the event at the 1956 Melbourne Olympics, but was eliminated in round one. At those Games, Goudeau was also eliminated in round one of the 200 metres. Having won the national title in the 400 metres in 1955, he had one final success by winning silver in the 4x400 metres relay at the 1959 Mediterranean Games before retiring from active competition.
