Steve Alger was regarded as the greatest Bermudian tennis player of all-time through the 20th century. Active during the 1980s, Alger reached a career-high ranking of 457 in the world in January 1981. He is the only tennis player from Bermuda to have competed at the Olympics (through 2021).
Alger competed in the singles tournament at the 1988 Seoul Olympics. Alger lost in the first round to Jakob Hlasek of Switzerland. Two years later, he won the bronze medal in the team event at the Central American and Caribbean Games. After his playing career he became a tennis coach.
