Jakob Hlasek

Jakob Hlasek was a Swiss tennis player who played professionally from 1983 to 1996. Hlasek achieved a career-best singles ranking of seven in the world in April 1989, and a doubles ranking of four in the world in November 1989. As a doubles player he won one Grand Slam title.

Hlasek won his first doubles title at the Grand Prix de Tennis de Toulouse in October 1985 and went on to win a total of 20 titles during his career. He often played with Guy Forget, Marc Rosset, and Yevgeny Kafelnikov, and occasionally had one-time pairings with players such as Anders Järryd and Boris Becker. With Marc Rosset the pair won the doubles title at the 1992 French Open, Hlasek’s only Grand Slam title. Hlasek reached the semi-finals in the doubles of the other three Grand Slams, with his best singles performance coming at the 1991 French Open when he reached the quarter-finals.

Hlasek competed at the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics, the 1988 Seoul Olympics, and the 1992 Barcelona Olympics. In Los Angeles tennis was a demonstration sport with Hlasek losing in the quarter-finals of the singles to the eventual runner-up Francisco Maciel. At the 1988 Games he competed in the singles and the doubles where he reached the third and second rounds, respectively. His final Olympics was in Barcelona where again he played in the singles and doubles. In the singles he lost in the third round to Goran Ivanišević, and reached the quarter-finals of the doubles with partner Marc Rosset.
