Andrzej Pstrokoński was a Polish basketball player, coach, and politician. Pstrokoński graduated from the Bielany University of Physical Education with a master’s degree in physical education and qualifications in coaching. Pstrokoński played for Legia Warszawa from 1952 to 1972 where he won the Polish Basketball League on five occasions.
Pstrokoński was a two-time Olympian, competing at the 1960 Roma Olympics and the 1964 Tokyo Olympics. The Polish team finished in 7th and 6th places, respectively. Pstrokoński played in five editions of the European Championships, winning silver in 1963 and bronze in 1965. His career for the national team spanned a decade, playing in 200 matches and scoring more than 1,000 points.
After his playing career, Pstrokoński became a coach. He coached the national women’s team, who won the bronze medal at the 1968 European Championships, and the men’s national team from 1976 to 1977. A short career in politics also followed, with Pstrokoński becoming the General Secretary of the Krajowa Partia Emerytów i Rencistów (“National Party of Retirees and Pensioners”) in 2012.
