By taking the 100 y-220 y double at the Irish AAAs for six successive years (1901-06) Denis Murray completely dominated Irish sprinting in the early years of the 20th century. In the Ireland vs. Scotland match, he had four successive victories in the 100 y (1901-04) and three in the 220 y (1902-04). In 1907 he won the long jump at the Irish and the AAA Championships and in 1908 he was runner-up at the AAAs. After he gave up active sport he settled in County Kildare as a farmer and owner of a racing stable. His brothers, Jack and William, also competed in the 1908 Olympics, the first time that three brothers had represented Britain at the Olympic Games in any sport.
