The German basketball team did not play any role in the Olympic tournament of the 1936 Berlin Games when basketball was held for the first time at Olympic Games. They lost their matches against Switzerland (25-18), Italy (58-16) and Czechoslovakia (20-9) in the first two rounds and were eliminated.
Siegfried Reischies was the captain of the team at the 1935 Academic World Games, and played his club for VfB Breslau. Reischies changed his name to Reiner after World War II. As Siegfried Reiner he was named the first chairman of the German Basketball Federation from 1949-53.
