At the 1915 LAC Schools’ meeting, Edward Wheller performed the remarkable feat of winning at 440 y and 880 y and placing second in the steeplechase in one afternoon. In 1920 he won the AAA 440 y hurdles after qualifying from the heats as the fastest loser, and was eliminated in the semis in the event at the Olympics. After the Games, he represented the British Empire vs. USA. He initially attended Paddington Secondary School and, after spending a year at Latymer Upper School, he became a student at Borough Road Teachers’ Training College.
