In 1928 German high jumper Helma Notte became the first Olympian from Dusseldorf, finishing sixth. She was seventh in 1932 at Los Angeles. In 1928 and 1930 Notte was German champion and she competed at three international matches. In 1930 she placed third in the Women’s World Games in Praha. She later was injured in a hurdle race and had to retire from athletics. In the 1950s, Notte opened a knitwear company in München, which became a sub-contracted Olympic clothing company for Olympians.
