Sprinter Erich Fuchs was eliminated in the 100 metre heats at the 1952 Olympic Games, the first ones in which Germany was permitted to participate after World War II. In 1974 he published the textbook Der Sprint. Programmierbare Trainingshilfen für Leichtathleten (The Sprint. Programmable Training Aids for Athletes).
He was a professor at the Pedagogical University in Kaiserslautern. He influenced the development of sports in Rheinland-Pfalz in several administrative functions, and from 1960-68 was national coach of the German women sprint relay team.
