Willy Kohlmey did not qualify directly for the 1908 Olympics, so he travelled there at his own expenses, but in London, he was eliminated in the heats of the 100 metres. He never won a German Championship and retired in 1911. Kohlmey then became a well-known sports administrator in Berlin, working for the athletics division of the Berlin Athletics Association and for the Deutscher Sportbund für Athletik (DSBfA). In 1929 he published Kohlmeys Leichtathletik Fibel, including a foreword by Martin Brustmann, and in 1930 Kohlmeys Handball Fibel. He also founded a sporting goods store.
