During the last years of World War II Péter Karádi started to compete in athletics for MAC. After the war he first competed for Vasas, then from 1947 for KAOE, and between 1950 and 1956 for MTK (Bp. Textiles, Bp. Bástya, Bp. Vörös Lobogó). Karádi won the Hungarian championship four times in total, all in relay races (1950: 4 x 100m, 4 x 200m, 4 x 400m, 1954: 4 x 400m).
Karádi was a member of the Hungarian national team between 1949 and 1955. In 1952 he was eliminated in the heats of the 200 metres sprint at the Helsinki Olympics. At the World University Games in the 4 x 400 metres relay he finished second in Berlin in 1951, and third in Budapest in 1949 and 1954. In 1954 he finished fifth in the relay at the European Championships in Bern.
Karádi earned a physical education teacher’s diploma in 1957 and an athletics coach’s diploma in 1966 at the College of Physical Education. From 1957 he worked as the head coach of MTK, then between 1963 and 1981 of FTC. In addition he worked as a physical education teacher at the Budapest Technical University. Between 1966 and 1972 Karádi was the inspector of the Hungarian Athletics Federation and the coach of the Hungarian youth and junior short-distance running team, and between 1969 and 1972 he was the preparatory coach of the Hungarian national short-distance runners. He was also a reliable member of the competition judging panel.
