Paolo Vittori started his career as a junior with Moto Morini Bologna before playing in the First League with Mazzini Bologna in 1959. He then played for Olimpia Milano (1959-65), Pallacanestro Varese (1965-67 and 1969-72), Partenope Napoli (1967-69) and finally, AMG Sebastiani Rieti (1972-74). During his career he won six Italian titles, four with Milano (1960, 1962-63, 1965) and two with Varese (1970-71). With Varese, he also won the Intercontinental Cup three times (1966, 1970, 1973), the European Cup twice (1970 and 1972), European Cup Winners’ Cup (1967) and the Italian Cup (1970 and 1971). Vittori was twice the First League top scorer, in the 1960/61 season (509 points) and 1964/65 (562 points). In total he scored 5,104 points in the Italian League
Vittori played with the national side between 1960-68 and scored 959 points in 89 matches. He competed at three Olympics (1960, 1964,1968) and in 1963 took part in both the European and World Championships. Alongside other well-known players like Giusto Pellanera, Sauro Bufalini and Franco Bertini, he won the Mediterranean Games in Napoli that same year. Vittori was inducted into the Italian Basketball Hall of Fame in 2008.
