Mexican sprinter Mariano Aguilar competed in the 100 metres and the 200 metres at the 1924 Paris Olympics, but did not advance from the heats in either race. Aguilar was also scheduled to run in the 4 × 100 metres relay in Paris but the Mexican team did not start the event. He had better fortunes at the 1926 Central American and Caribbean Games where he won two gold medals. The first was in the 100 metres, finishing ahead of compatriot Francisco Ramírez, and the second came in the 4 × 100 metres relay with Ramírez, Herminio Ahumada, and Mario Gómez.
