Biography

During the interwar period track and field athlete Jesús Moraila was one of the best sprinters in Mexico. Moraila specialised in the 400 metres and won multiple national and international titles. From 1927 to 1930 he won four consecutive national titles in the 400 metres, along with one in the 100 metres in 1930. At the 1926 Central American and Caribbean Games in Mexico he was part of the quartet that won gold in the 4 x 400 metres relay, and also finished third in the 400 metres. Two years later Moraila ran in the 100 metres, 400 metres, and the 4 x 400 metres relay at the 1928 Amsterdam Olympics, reaching the quarter-finals in the 400 metres. In 1930 he was once again part of the quartet that won gold in the 4 x 400 metres relay at the Central American and Caribbean Games, in addition to winning an individual silver in the 400 metres. Moraila ran in both the 100 metres and the 4 x 400 metres relay at the 1932 Los Angeles Olympics but he did not progress from the heats in either race.
