In 1932 Doorgeest won her first Dutch championship when she won the long jump. Two years later she also became the Dutch champion in the 80 metres hurdles, with her winning a further three titles in the event (1935–36, 1939). She also won silver in the 4 x 100 metres relay at the 1934 Women’s World Games in London. In 1936 she ran in the 80 metres hurdles at the Berlin Olympics but did not advance from the heats. She had better luck two years later when she came fifth in the same event at the 1938 European Championships.
