Dutch track and field athlete Jaap Boot represented AV Haarlem where he specialised in sprinting and the long jump. In the latter Boot won his first national title in 1923 and captured a further three titles during his career (1924, 1932–33). He competed in the event at the 1924 Paris Olympics where he finished eighth with a best effort of 6.860 metres. He was also part of the 4 × 100 metres relay quartet that won bronze, with the Dutch team equalling the then-world record in the heats when they ran 42.0 seconds. Four years later Boot ran in the 100 metres at the 1928 Amsterdam Olympics but did not advance from the heats.
