Theo Saat was the dominant Dutch sprinter in the 1950s. After winning the 100/200 double at the 1951 and 1952 Dutch Championships, he won four more titles in the 100 m (1954-7). Internationally, he won the 100 m at the 1950 Military World Championships. At the Helsinki Olympics he reached the semi-finals of the 100 m, while being eliminated in the quarter-finals of the 200 m. In 1954, he reached the final of the 100 m at the European Championships, placing 6th. In the same event, he ran in the relay team that set a long-standing Dutch record (41,2). Besides his sprinting career, Saat worked in insurance, and he ran his own company in Noordwijk for many years.
