Biography

Edmund Turton was born in San Fernando, Trinidad, where he attended the city’s Presentation College secondary school. It was here that he began honing his athletic skills on the track, and he was eventually selected to represent Trinidad and Tobago at the 1956 Melbourne Olympics. There, he was eliminated in the quarter-finals of the 100 metres and was also a reserve in the 200 and 400 metres events, as well as the 4x100 metres relay.

Turton won two medals at the British West Indies Championships. In 1957 he took silver in the 4x400 metres relay with Horace Hart, Gerald Yammie, and Knolly Barnes. The following year he was national champion in 4x100 metres relay alongside Joe Goddard, George Lewis, and Hendrickson Harewood. He also played football and was affiliated briefly with the national team. He eventually settled in Michigan.

Personal Best: 100 – 10.6 (1956).
