Oleg Fedoseyev was the leading Soviet long jumper in the middle of 1950s, winning Soviet titles in 1956 and 1958 and representing his country at the 1956 Olympics and 1958 European Championships, where he finished eighth both times. In the late 1950s, however, Fedoseyev was overshadowed by young Igor Ter-Ovanesyan and Fedoseyev switched to triple jumping. As a triple jumper, Fedoseyev competed at the 1962 European Championships, winning bronze, and the 1964 Olympics, winning silver. He was also the 1959 Soviet triple jump champion, the same year he set a triple jump world record of 16.70. Fedoseyev was also a Soviet 4×100 relay champion in 1962.
