The conditions were difficult with strong, gusty winds, and a short, loose runway. American Greg Bell called them “the worst conditions I ever jumped under“. But Bell did better than everybody else, winning the gold medal with 7.83 (25-8¼), his third round jump. First round leader was John Bennett (USA) with 7.68 (25-2½). He could do no better but won the silver medal.
