Competing for the Crown Cities Track Club, Sharon Callahan won the 1968 US Olympic Trials in the high jump, while still a student at Whittier LaSerne High School in California. She also placed third that year in the AAU Championships in the high jump.
After marrying John McKniff, Sharon Callahan-McKniff raised two sons, but still worked as a paralegal when she could. She was a volunteer track coach at Sabino High School in Tucson, Arizona, and spent time with the cancer survivor organization Better Than Ever, where she worked as a trainer, and with the Saddlebrooke Rotary Club and Catalina Food and Clothing Bank.
