Ira Courtney

In 1909, Ira Courtney finished third in the AAU 100 and fourth in the 200, and was also runner-up in the AAU Junior 100. At the 1912 Olympics, he also competed in the baseball demonstration event. Courtney attended high school in Washington state, and then Philips Exeter Academy for prep school, before going to the University of Washington. He then went to law school at USC. After graduation he practiced law mostly, although for a few years he was a partner in an engineering firm. Later in his life, he practiced law with his son, but in 1968 there was an explosion in their building and Ira Courtney was severely injured. He died two months later from injuries sustained in the explosion.
