Dick Grant ran the marathon at the 1900 Paris Olympics, placing sixth. Grant was a Canadian citizen, but at the 1900 Olympics he was a member of two American clubs, the Boston Athletic Association and the Cambridgeport Gymnasium near Boston. Grant ran the first Boston Marathon in 1897, and led the race through the early miles, but did not finish. In 1899 he was runner-up at Boston, running his personal best marathon of 2-57:46, and he finished eighth at Boston in 1900, a few months before the Olympic marathon.
