Biography
Hal Heiland of the Xavier AA finished third in the 1912 Eastern Olympic Trials in the 200 metres. He was, however, placed on the US Team in both short sprints, but did not make the Olympic final of either event. Heiland was only chosen for the supplementary list for the Olympics, but had a good showing at an Olympic tune-up meet at American League Park in New York on 12 June. He chased top sprinter Ira Courtney in the 300 metres, finishing second to him. Heiland worked in the 1910s as a supervisor at the International Arms and Engineering Company, and later had a similar role with Westinghouse Electric.
