Eoin Collins represented Ireland in the doubles competition at the 1988 and 1992 Olympic Games, partnering both times with Owen Casey. The pair were eliminated in the first round in Seoul and the second round in Barcelona. After completing his leaving certificate at St. Fintan’s High School, Sutton, Dublin, in 1985 he took up a scholarship at Indiana University in the USA. He was the #1 tennis player in the Irish rankings in 1990, 1993, and 1994. Collins was the winner of the Irish championship in 1990 and 1995, and won the first of his five Irish close singles championships in 1984 as a 15-year-old. He made his Davis Cup début against the Netherlands in 1987 and from then to 2004 he played in 20 Davis Cup ties. He had a respectable record winning 16 of his 35 matches. A left-hander, his highest world singles ranking was #461, reached on 15 July 1991.
