Biography

Laura Tavares competed in biathlon at the 1994 Lillehammer Winter Olympics, appearing in the 15 km race and the relay, in her first year on the national team. She also competed at the 1994 World Championships, placing fifth with the relay. Tavares continued to compete in North America through the 1997-97 season, appearing in several FIS races in North America. Tavares made the 1994 Winter Olympics by placing third in the 7.5 km and fourth in the 15 km at the 1993 US Championships.

Tavares attended St. Lawrence University. She was a top all-around endurance athlete, competing at the 1992 US Nationals and Olympic Trials in cycling. In 1994 Tavares was a member of the Vermont National Guard. She was married to Bill Tavares, who competed in luge at the 1992 Winter Olympics.
