Diego Nargiso

Diego Nargiso was a left-handed Italian tennis player, with an excellent backhand and good volleys. In 1987 he won the Wimbledon junior singles title, the first Italian to do so. He turned professional that year and played through 2001, making the final of two ATP tournaments (Bordeaux 1993 and Palermo 2000). He did win five ATP doubles titles and reached 15 finals. He was a key player on the Italian Davis Cup team from 1988-2000, specializing in doubles, where he reached a world best ranking of #25 in March 1990. Nargiso’s best world ranking in singles was #67, which he achieved on 10 October 1988.

Nargiso tried to go into politics and was a candidate in the 1999 and 2004 European elections with center-right parties, but was defeated both times. Since 2016 he has been a commentator for the television channel Supertennis and, for important events, also for Eurosport and Sky.
