Skeeter Werner came from a renowned ski family, as she was the sister of 1956 and 1964 Olympian Buddy Werner, and another member of the US Ski team, Loris Werner. She retired shortly after the 1956 Olympics, but later founded the Steamboat Ski School in Steamboat Springs, Colorado. In 1968, she married Doak Walker, a former college football and NFL legend, and they lived in Steamboat throughout their lives.
