Biography

Henry “Hank” Akervall was a Canadian ice hockey defenseman who began his career with the Port Arthur North Stars in the 1953–54 season. After two further seasons Akervall joined the Hamilton Tiger Cubs before moving to the United States to represent the Michigan Tech Huskies at the end of the 1950s. He played almost 90 games for Michigan and was eventually inducted into their Hall of Fame in 1990.

In 1962 Akervall spent a season playing in Finland before returning to Canada, where he was selected to compete at the 1964 Innsbruck Olympics. Canada went on to finish fourth at the Games with Akervall playing in all eight of their matches, scoring three goals. Following the Olympics he briefly played for the Warroad Lakers in Minnesota followed by two season with the Port Arthur Bearcats in Ontario. After his playing career he turned to coaching, helping the Lakehead Thunderwolves to win the International Collegiate Hockey Association title in 1967.
