Gaëtan Boucher started his hockey career with the Quebec Remparts in the Québec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL), playing with them from 1972-76, when he briefly joined the Trois Rivieres Draveurs. Boucher then settled in Switzerland, playing out the rest of his career there, through 2001. He started with Villars in 1978, but then had brief stretches with Bern, Lausanne, Genève-Servette, and Sierre, before moving to Biel-Bienne in 1989. Boucher played with Biel-Benne through 1994, and then had one season with La Chaux-de-Fonds in 1994/95, then returning to Villars, with whom he played the final six seasons of his career.
Boucher played at the 1988 Winter Olympics, and also skated for Switzerland at the 1987 World Championships, and the 1990 B World Championships.
