Biography

Václav Bubník was a Czechoslovak ice hockey player who competed during the 1950s. Bubník spent his domestic career with Sokol VŽKG and Baník VŽKG, winning the league title with the former club in the 1951–52 season. He was a prolific player with the national team, playing in 64 matches and scoring 14 goals. He represented Czechoslovakia at the 1952 and 1956 Olympics where he was the flagbearer at the Opening Ceremony on both occasions. At the 1956 Cortina d’Ampezzo Games he played the tournament with injured collarbone that had not fully healed. After his playing career Bubník went on to coach the Yugoslavia national team in the mid-1960s, including at the 1964 Innsbruck Olympics.
