Heinz Busche was a member of the West German four-man bob together with Peter Hell, Hans Wagner and Walter Barfuß at the 1980 Lake Placid Winter Games finishing seventh. With Hell as the pilot he also came in eighth in the two-man event. He had his greatest moment at the 1979 Worlds at Königssee, earning a gold medal with the four-man bob.
In his youth Busche was a successful pole vaulter and sprinter. In 1972, he failed to qualify for the Olympics due to a torn muscle. In 1974 he finished 12th in the pole vault event at the Europeans. He then turned to bobsleigh in 1977. In 1984, he was awarded the Silver Bay Leaf, Germany’s highest sports award. By profession, Busche became a physiotherapist with his own practice in Mönchengladbach.
