Aleksandr Chernykh played most of his career from 1981-89 with one club, Khimik Voskresensk, except for 1985-86, when he played with CSKA Moskva, and 1986-87, when he was with SKA Moskva Oblast. With CSKA Moskva Chernykh won Soviet and European Champions Cup titles in 1986. Internationally, besides his Olympic gold in 1988, Chernykh won World and European Championships in 1989.
