Sergey Danilin is the most successful Soviet or Russian luger. Danilin won Olympic silver at the 1984 Olympics and was World champion in 1981 and European champion in 1986. He also won silvers at the 1982 European and 1983 World Championships and bronzes at the 1987, 1989 and 1990 World Championships. While most of his medals came in the men’s singles event, his last two bronze medals at the World Championships came in the mixed team event. He also won two silvers at the World Cup in the men’s singles event in 1981-82 and 1982-83. His wife Nadezhda was also a luger, who competed at the 1988 and 1992 Winter Olympics.
