Many people consider Dick Desmond the greatest goaltender in Dartmouth College history. He minded the nets for Dartmouth from 1945 until 1949, during which time Dartmouth had its greatest hockey success ever, as they twice went to the finals of the NCAA tournament, although they came up short both times. However, at the 1949 NCAAs, Desmond was voted the tournament’s MVP. Desmond had a career goals against average of less than three per game. Desmond also played for the United States team which won a silver medal at the 1950 World Championships.
