From the Eveleth goldmine of hockey talent, Andy Gambucci took his skates to Colorado Springs, where he played college hockey for Colorado College. He also played football at Colorado College, finishing fourth in scoring nationally in 1952 with 16 touchdowns. While there he made the U.S. Olympic hockey team which won the 1952 silver medal. Gambucci had offers from the Boston Bruins of the NHL and the Chicago Bears of the NFL, but spurned them both, and played and coached in Italy for a few years. He then remained in Colorado Springs and became a referee for the Western Collegiate Hockey Association, but the bulk of his time was spent building up a very successful insurance business with Acordia Insurance.
