Left winger Todd Hlushko spent his formative years of ice hockey in Ontario with the Guelph Jr. B’s (1987-1988), the Guelph/Owen Sounds Platers (1988-1990), and the London Knights (1989-1990) prior to being recruited by the National Hockey League’s Washington Capitals. He never suited up for the team, however, and instead skated with the American Hockey League’s Baltimore Skipjacks from 1990 through 1992. The following year he joined the Canadian national men’s ice hockey team at the 1994 Winter Olympics and took home a silver medal from the tournament with five goals in eight games. He finished out the 1993-1994 season with the NHL’s Philadelphia Flyers and the AHL’s Hershey Bears prior to splitting the next two years between the Calgary Flames and the Saint John Flames. He spent his only NHL-exclusive season with Calgary in 1996-1997 and then split one more year between Calgary and Saint John prior to having one last go at American hockey with the NHL’s Pittsburgh Penguins and the International Hockey League’s Grand Rapids Griffins. In 1999 he moved to Germany and suited up for the Cologne Sharks (1999-2000), Adler Mannheim (2000-2004), and the Hannover Scorpions (2004-2005), and then returned in 2006 for two seasons with the Ontario Hockey Association’s Dundas Real McCoys. During his 2005-2006 break from active play he was an assistant coach with the league’s Guelph Storm. He now works as a trainer at The Hockey Loft, a development facility for aspiring ice hockey players.
