Jürgen Hofmann from Heidelberg was a member of the West German four-man bob together with Alois Schnorbus, Lothar Pongratz and Martin Meinberg at the 1980 Lake Placid Winter Games, where they finished 10th. He was one of several athletes, in his case a sprinter, who turned from athletics to bobsleigh. His son Andreas became a javelin thrower of international level.
