Dieter Kalt, Sr.

Austrian ice hockey forward Dieter Kalt, Sr. played with Austria at the 1964 Innsbruck Winter Olympics. The team was eliminated in the group stage. Four years later the same thing happened again at the 1968 Grenoble Games. In total, Kalt won 160 international caps. Domestically, Kalt played with EC Klagenfurt and won the national titles eight times in a row between 1964-71. He was the father of Dieter Kalt, Jr., who also became an ice hockey player.

Kalt, Sr. later became a hockey executive, coach, and referee. He joined the Austrian Ice Hockey Association and served as president from 1996-2016. In this role he headed the investigative commission into doping incidents among Austrian cross-country skiers and biathletes at the Torino Winter Games in 2006. At that time, six athletes, and the coach Walter Mayer, were banned for life.

By profession, Kalt was a graduated lawyer. From 1982-2006, he served as district captain of the Sankt Veit an der Glan District. He was inducted into the International Ice Hall of Fame in 2017.
