Torri Edwards was a sprinter who ran at two Olympic Games, winning a bronze medal in the 4x100 relay at the 2000 Athina Olympics. The peak of her career was winning the 2003 100 metre gold medal at the World Championships, at which she also added silvers in the 200 and 4x100 relay. Edwards won gold in the 4x100 at the 2007 World Championships. She was a silver medalist in the 60 metres at the 2003 World Indoor Championships. In 2003 she was world ranked #3 in the world in the 100 metres.
Edwards ran at the University of Southern California, graduating in 2005 with a sociology degree. She began coaching in 2010, starting at the high school level, but later served as a collegiate coach in Riverside Community College, Cal Poly Pomona, and the University of Kentucky. In 2015 she was named head coach of men’s and women’s track and field and cross-country at Kentucky State University.
During her career Edwards received a 15-month doping ban, starting in July 2004, which caused her to miss the 2004 Olympic Games. She was found to have taken the drug nikethamide at a meet in Martinique, which she admitted she had taken to combat an illness.
