The top Belgian sprinter at the turn of the 20th century, Charles Van den Born won the Belgian title in the sprint in 1898, 1900, and 1905-09. He competed at the World Championships several times, placing third in 1908. Van den Born was also a pioneer in the early days of European aviation. He later settled in France and became a French citizen in December 1936.
