Fred Eberhardt was from a large family of brothers from Salina, Kansas known for their athletic prowess. They were the sons of Christoph Eberhardt, who had a lumber business in Salina and helped found Kansas Wesleyan University in 1886. With his brother, Frank Eberhardt, Fred won several Kansas titles in doubles tennis.
Fred Eberhardt worked for the National Bank of America, but later founded the Eberhardt-Simpson Grain Company in Salina. He was also a founding and charter member of the Salina Country Club and was the last surviving charter member.
