Biography

The Sauerbrunn family emigrated fo the USA from Bavaria in the 1880s and eventually set up a construction firm in St.Louis. The family company were awarded the rights to build and run a hotel within the confines of the St. Louis Exposiition. At the age of 12 Roy Sauerbrunn won the Olympic Elementary School Championship (St. Louis), Boys Under 13 Years, 50 yards title to become, very unofficially, one of the youngest “Olympic champions” that we know about. He later joined the family in the building trade and no record seems to exist of him ever racing after leaving school.
