At the 1904 St. Louis Olympics dozens of handicap non-medal track and field events were contested alongside the “true” Olympic events. Ed Stanard competed in nine of these such events, all in various weight-throwing disciplines. Stanard placed first in three hammer throwing events for boys, contested as interscholastic championships, on 14 May, 29 June, and 30 June at Francis Field, Washington University. By 1934 he had become the President of the Stanard-Tilton Milling Co. where he served in the role until 1942 when the company was sold. Stanard then briefly worked as the superintendent of property at the St. Louis Police Department before working as the city supply commissioner from 1944 to 1949.
