Stephen Leach played right wing, starting out in college at the University of New Hampshire. He played for the US at the 1986 World Junior Championship in addition to his 1988 Winter Olympic appearance. Leach played in the NHL from 1985-2000, starting out with the Washington Capitals, with whom he played for six years, and then he moved around a lot, playing with the Boston Bruins, St. Louis Blues, Carolina Hurricanes, Ottawa Senators, Phoenix Coyotes, and finishing up with the Pittsburgh Penguins. In his NHL career he appeared in 702 games, scoring 130 goals and 283 points. Leach also was up and down a bit to the minor leagues, mostly later in his career. In 1986-87 he played most of the season with the Binghamton Whalers of the American Hockey League (AHL). From 1998-2000 he played with the Detroit Vipers of the International Hockey League, and also spent some time back in the AHL with the Springfield Falcons, the Wilkes-Barre Scranton Pens, and the Louisville Panthers. Leach later became a youth hockey coach.
