Biography

South Korean speed skater Lee Yeong-Ha was one of the best at the sport in the country during the 1970s, with him setting more than 50 national records. In 1976 Lee won both the 3,000 and 5,000 metres at the World Junior Championships. Earlier that same year he competed in four events at the Innsbruck Olympics, having a best finish of 11th in the 5,000 metres. Lee went on to participate at two more Games, 1980 Lake Placid and 1984 Sarajevo, but did not improve on his early performances. In 1992 he returned to the Olympics one more time, this time as the flagbearer at the Opening Ceremony for the Albertville Games. Following his retirement Lee coached the South Korean national team.

Personal Bests: 500 – 38.40 (1983); 1000 – 1:17.76 (1984); 1500 – 2:01.71 (1984); 5000 – 7:14.88 (1984); 10000 – 15:16.84 (1984).
