Kim Reid

Kim Reid entered his first water skiing competition at the age of six and made his first of 24 consecutive appearences at the Canadian National Championships in 1969. Although he set multiple records and held numerous titles, his tenure on the national team was much shorter and began in 1971, when he finished seventh in the slalom at that year’s World Championships. This would end up being his best official result on the international stage, but he later participated in the 1973 and 1975 World Championships. He also competed at the 1972 Summer Olympics, where water skiing was a demonstration sport, and placed joint-9th (with Ricky McCormick of the United States and Ian Walker of Great Britain) in the slalom and 12th in jumping.

Reid continued to compete internationally until 1977 and graduated with a law degree from the University of Manitoba the following year. He eventually moved to Calgary, Alberta and became a partner with Atkinson McMahon. After retiring from national competition in 1992, he started his own firm that focused on business law. He has served in several administrative capacities at the national water skiing level and was inducted into the Water Ski and Wakeboard Canada Hall of Fame in 2010.
