Spanish tennis player Juan Gisbert was active for 20 years from 1956 to 1976 and achieved a career-best singles ranking of #14 in the world in 1967. In 1968 Gisbert reached the singles final at the Australian Open but lost to Bill Bowrey in four sets. He would later win one ATP singles title but was more of a doubles specialist, winning 21 titles during his career, often paired with Manuel Orantes.
Gisbert competed at several major international multi-sporting events in the late 1960s and early 1970s. In 1967 he won gold in the doubles at the Summer Universiade, along with silver in the singles and doubles at the Mediterranean Games. One year later he competed in the singles and doubles at the 1968 Mexico City Olympics, with tennis being a demonstration event. Gisbert partnered Manuel Santana in the doubles, with the pair losing in the final to the Mexican duo of Rafael Osuna and Vicente Zarazúa. In 1971 Gisbert returned to the Mediterranean Games, winning gold in the doubles and silver in the singles.
