Vicente Zarazúa came from a family of tennis players, with both his parents and older brothers playing the sport at an amateur level in Mexico. In the late 1950s and early 1960s Zarazúa won multiple Mexican youth titles in singles, doubles, and mixed doubles, and later becoming a mainstay on Mexico’s Davis Cup team. Zarazúa had success at the Central American and Caribbean Games, winning gold in the doubles in 1962, along with gold in the mixed doubles and bronze in the singles in 1966.
At the 1968 Mexico City Olympics tennis was played as a demonstration sport with Zarazúa competing in multiple singles, doubles, and mixed doubles events. Two doubles competitions were held at the Games with Zarazúa winning both with compatriot Rafael Osuna. After his playing career he became a sports commentator for Telvisa. His great niece Renata played tennis at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
